The Toho 30CM series of soft vinyl figures based on Toho tokusatsu monsters, produced by PLEX and distributed by X-PLUS, has announced a new product , "Godzilla (1998)," based on the 1998 movie "Godzilla," scheduled for release in May 2026.
The Godzilla featured in the Samsung Pictures remake of the film *Godzilla* differed from the Toho version's Godzilla, who was depicted as a giant lizard monster about 90 meters long, mutated from a marine iguana after a nuclear experiment. However, this Godzilla was far too realistic; agile and fond of fish, it lacked the ability to breathe heat and was easily killed by a few missiles. Later, Toho's *Godzilla: The Last War* featured a very similar "Strongleg Monster," which was renamed "Zilla" for distinction, but was also easily defeated by the real Godzilla in the film.
The "Toho 30cm Series Godzilla (1998)" is a large-scale figure, approximately 20cm tall and 43cm long, perfectly recreating Godzilla's dynamic, slender body and Tyrannosaurus-like walking posture. The entire body is sculpted with skin that closely resembles that of a reptile, and features features such as hooked dorsal fins. The brown tones on the abdomen and other areas are rendered through color painting, and the scale patterns are extremely realistic. When viewed from below, it evokes the image of Godzilla's agile movements as it traverses New York City in the movie.
This product is also being offered in a limited edition available only at "Shonen RIC", which comes with a "Godzilla Egg" that is approximately 13.5 cm tall for display.
