The Kaiyodo company presents us with the figure dedicated to the Kudara Kannon statue, a Japanese national treasure from the Hōryū-ji temple in Ikaruga, Nara prefecture, Japan.
Hōryū-ji (法 隆 寺) is a Buddhist temple located in Ikaruga, Nara Prefecture, Japan. Its full name is Hōryū Gakumonji (法 隆 学問 寺), because this site serves as a monastery. The temple is well known for having the oldest wooden buildings in the world. Because it has the oldest and most important temples, Hōryū-ji is the most revered temple in Japan.4 In 1993, Hōryū-ji was designated a Unesco World Heritage Site and has been named by the Japanese government as a National Treasure.
The Kudara Kannon is a Kannon statue made of golden camphor wood, with a height of 2.10 meters. The statue is extremely thin, creating the illusion of greater height. The word Kudara in Japanese refers to the Baekje kingdom. The statue is considered a unique piece of Japanese art. Some art critics consider it a Korean creation. Another source suggests that the statue was carved in Japan but does not detail its origins.
Now Kaiyodo presents us with an exact representation of this statue created by the sculptors of Studio-Ren. The figure has immense quality of detail and makes it a very accurate representation of the original statue. This figure is limited to 800 units worldwide and is sold exclusively in the Asahi Shimbun SHOP online store.
