INFORMATION
The "ARTPLA" series of fixed plastic assembly model kits launched by Japanese model maker Kaiyodo exhibited the latest product "Godzilla Re:Imagination" from the 1954 movie "Godzilla" at the "63rd Japan Shizuoka Model Exhibition". It is expected to be officially released in October 2025.
The first Godzilla, which appeared in the 1954 film "Godzilla", is also known as "Godzilla" and "the giant water monster". This 20,000-ton, 50-meter-tall black monster lives in the deep sea. It is speculated to be a transitional creature that evolved from marine reptiles to terrestrial mammals. However, its habitat was destroyed by nuclear tests, and it came ashore with hatred to destroy human cities. Tanks and missiles could do no harm to it, but the high-temperature heat rays it spewed out could easily turn Tokyo into a sea of fire.
"ARTPLA Godzilla Re:Imagination" was prototyped by Shinobu Matsumura, who has worked at Kaiyodo for many years and is known as Japan's top creature modeler. It reinterprets the classic scene 70 years ago when Godzilla first landed in Tokyo and destroyed the railway and chewed on the tram. The shape is not based on the monster costumes used in the movies at the time, but a re-sculpted Godzilla with a more ancient and huge creature feel, presenting the despair emanating from the scene with a vivid biting posture.
The kit consists of a total of 8 parts, which use precise modeling to reproduce Godzilla's rough skin texture, irregular coral-like dorsal fin, and terrifying ferocious head. The brown and gray tones of the parts molded colors show the appearance of the burning streets reflected by the flames. What’s special about this product is that the tail, legs and other parts use internal parts that resemble a body and skeleton, which not only maintains the strength of the part, but also makes the dividing line less obvious after installing skin parts with extremely small tolerances.
The base also uses precise modeling to depict the area around Yurakucho Station that was destroyed by Godzilla. Although the molding color is the same as Godzilla itself, the subtle details can be greatly displayed after self-painting.
