The "Macross" series of "HG (High Grade) 1/100 scale" assembly models launched by the Hobby Division of Japan's Bandai SPIRITS company have announced that the latest product "VF-31S Hero (Arad Metas's plane)" from the anime "Macross Δ" is expected to be released in January 2026. This product will be released simultaneously in a regular version and a DX version with more luxurious accessories.
The VF-31 Hero (Siegfried) is a unit of the variable fighter unit "Δ Squad" of the private corporation "Kaius," used to escort the musical group "Walküre." This upgraded VF-31 Kairos boasts a wealth of weaponry, including anti-aircraft beam guns, railguns, and assault daggers. It also features a FOLD wave system and the multi-role drone "Cygnus," allowing it to collaborate with the Walküre, delivering their songs and calming patients who have gone berserk after experiencing "Val Syndrome."
The "HG 1/100 VF-31S Hero" is the aircraft used by Arad Metas , Captain of the Delta Squad in the series . This kit is a modified version of a previously released model. Through sophisticated color separation and component separation technology, the aircraft's stylish proportions and densely detailed styling are reproduced at 1/100 scale. Insert injection molding is used to achieve the green lines and color blocks on the white fuselage and wing parts. The included five-layer decal sheet, constructed using aluminum vapor deposition on PET film, boasts exceptionally thin construction, high coverage, and vibrant colors, easily reproducing a variety of aircraft markings for a more realistic look.
By replacing parts, the figure can transform into three different positions: Fighter, Gerwalker, and Battroid. This simplified transformation mechanism allows for flexible poseability and allows each form to be accurately aligned with the original illustrations. The FIGHTER form's cockpit canopy opens and closes, allowing the pilot figure to be inserted. It's crafted from a polarized material that changes color depending on the angle of reflection, and the base can be replaced with parts to reproduce the extended landing gear.
The stowed heads in FIGHTER and GERWALK modes, as well as the complete head in BATTROID mode, all utilize new parts to reproduce a design distinct from the Hayate mode. In BATTROID mode, the simplified transformation mechanism allows for a wide range of joints throughout the body, allowing for a variety of interchangeable hands, dual assault daggers, and a beam gun pod for striking combat poses.
The more luxurious "DX Edition" includes not only the regular version model kit, but also a "Miyun Kinumere Double-Sided Illustration Acrylic Stand" and "Miyun Kinumere Water Transfer Sticker" newly drawn by Chisei Sanada (CAPCOM), who is responsible for the original character design of "Macross Delta".
